Kick start your day with MCTs for focus, mood and cognition.

What are MCTs?

Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs) are a good type of fat found in small amounts in dairy foods like butter, cheese and coconut oil. They are digested differently to normal dietary fats and this gives them a point of difference for both health and performance. MCTs have many benefits, including:

  • Fuelling mental and physical performance
  • Helping you get into and stay in ketosis.

Coconut-derived medium chain triglycerides are easily absorbed and converted in the liver to ketones which help fuel the brain and body for mental and physical performance, thus making them perfect for trying to get back into the zone when returning to work or study after a break away. Ketones allow your body to produce energy from good fats, rather than from sugar and carbohydrates.

MCTs for focus, mood and cognition

One of the key reasons for using MCTs to increase ketones is to help to fuel your brain. To improve focus, mood, and the ability to concentrate during the day, simply take one or two tablespoons. whenever you feel that your mental energy is dropping or if you are experiencing ‘brain fog’.

Melrose MCT Oil

Melrose MCT Pro Rapid contains higher amounts of caprylic acid (C8) which converts more efficiently into ketone energy and is used by your brain and body faster than other fats. It also contains C6, which is the fastest-absorbing fatty acid.

For more sustained energy and focus, the Melrose MCT Pro Plus contains lauric acid (C12) and is a slower-burning fuel source, providing longer-lasting energy and brain fuel.

MCT guidelines

  • Because of the way MCTs are absorbed, the dose that you can take in one sitting is limited and people’s tolerance to MCTs can differ from one-another by large amounts. That’s why it’s important to build up slowly to find your own optimal level.
  • Start with a teaspoon and build up by one teaspoon at a time, until you are taking somewhere between three to six teaspoons at a time
  • If you experience any stomach discomfort, cut the dose back.

Three easy ways to add MCTs in your daily routine

1. MCT smoothie
Adding MCTs to your smoothie is a great way to add MCTs to your day. Make sure that your smoothie also includes a good protein source, berries, and veggies for a full ‘meal in a glass’ that will help to satisfy you and provide nutrient density.

2. Bullet-proof coffee
A great brain-boosting way to take your ketones is in your morning coffee or tea. Try a tablespoon of Melrose MCT with a tablespoon of butter, cream, or coconut cream, in your morning coffee or tea. Give it a quick whizz with a hand blender for a creamy, latte-like consistency.

3. MCT dressing base

Use MCTs as a base for salad and veggie dressings. They are light and almost tasteless! Add a tablespoon of Melrose MCT to olive oil, lemon juice or vinegar, plus salt and pepper for an easy, convenient salad dressing that’s packed with nutrients along with brain and body-friendly fats!
