Weird moons in our solar system

The 170 plus named moons in our solar system have but one thing in common: they each orbit around a planet. Beyond this each is unique, and often strangely so.

In our solar system we have moons that are larger than some planets, and others that are tiny captured asteroids. Astronomers have identified moons with environments that may harbour life, moons with clouds, sand dunes and lakes, moons with the highest cliffs in the Solar System, with oceans much deeper than any on Earth and with liquid nitrogen geysers; in other words: moons just ‘mooning around” being weird! Come and enjoy Jenny’s insights into this strange and illuminating topic.
